The U.S. Embassy in Serbia has announced the opening of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program competition for the 2027–2028 academic year. This prestigious non-degree postdoctoral program offers researchers, university lecturers, and academic experts from Serbia the opportunity to spend between three and nine months in the United States conducting advanced research and/or teaching at a U.S. university.

The program is open to scholars currently affiliated with a higher education institution in Serbia and aims to strengthen academic collaboration between Serbia and the United States. In addition to advancing their own research and professional development, Fulbright scholars are expected to share their knowledge and experiences with colleagues and students upon returning home.

Applications are welcome from a wide range of academic disciplines, including the social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, engineering, public health, education, arts, and many others. Applicants must be citizens of Serbia, hold a Ph.D. in their field, be employed at a Serbian higher education institution, and demonstrate proficiency in English.

The application deadline is October 14, 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews later in the year, with final selections expected in spring 2027.

Interested applicants can learn more about eligibility requirements and submit their applications through the official Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program competition page: Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program Competition 2027–2028.
