On May 14, 2026, ARC in Belgrade opened USA 250, an exhibition that uses contemporary visual art to explore American historical and cultural symbols while opening a broader conversation about how freedom is understood today.

Through the work of Momir Bulović, a contemporary artist living and working in New York, familiar figures, symbols, and elements of American popular culture are transformed into new visual narratives. Defined by strong contrasts, layered textures, and fragmented forms, his artistic language invites visitors to pause, reflect, and discover their own interpretations of widely recognized images and ideas.

Speaking at the opening, ARC Director Marija Bjelopetrović described USA 250 as an important part of the center’s broader cultural program, bringing together different perspectives and experiences through art and contemporary dialogue.

“USA 250 is not conceived as a traditional historical retrospective, but as a space for rethinking the idea of freedom and the ways we understand it today. Through art, we want to open a dialogue between historical symbols and contemporary experience, while inviting audiences to become part of that conversation,” said Bjelopetrović.

USA 250 is one of several programs and events prepared by ARC as part of the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence, within the global #Freedom250 initiative marking one of the most influential historical documents of the modern era.

Throughout the summer and fall, ARC will continue to present programs focused on freedom, identity, culture, and contemporary society through exhibitions, educational initiatives, and public events.

The USA 250 exhibition remains open to visitors from May 15 through May 20, 2026, daily from 10 AM to 8 PM.

USA 250 demonstrates how art can connect history with the present moment, transforming familiar symbols into a space for new questions, personal interpretation, and the exchange of ideas.
