About the event:

We all have goals we care about. Yet knowing what we want and actually taking action are often two very different things. Why do we procrastinate on things that matter most? Why does motivation disappear when challenges appear? And why can failure feel so much more powerful than success?

Join us for From Ambition to Action: The Psychology of Achievement Motivation, an interactive workshop that explores the psychological forces shaping our goals, decisions, and behavior. Together, we will examine what drives us forward, what keeps us stuck, and how our beliefs about success and failure influence the choices we make every day.

Through reflection exercises, discussion, and insights from contemporary psychology, participants will explore how they define achievement, where their motivation comes from, and how factors such as perfectionism, fear of failure, comparison with others, and external expectations can affect progress toward meaningful goals.

The workshop will also introduce key concepts from achievement motivation theory, helping participants better understand the difference between pursuing goals to learn and grow versus pursuing them to prove themselves to others. By examining personal patterns of motivation and response to setbacks, participants will gain practical tools for approaching their ambitions in a healthier and more sustainable way.

In addition to personal development, participants will consider how achievement motivation relates to broader workforce and educational priorities in the United States, including skills development, lifelong learning, innovation, career readiness, and civic engagement. These themes are frequently reflected in national discussions about economic opportunity, workforce participation, and helping individuals reach their full potential in a rapidly changing world.

Rather than promising constant motivation, this workshop offers something more valuable: a deeper understanding of yourself. Participants will leave with greater clarity about what truly motivates them, what gets in their way, and one concrete next step they can take toward a goal that matters to them, while reflecting on how individual growth contributes to stronger communities, workplaces, and society as a whole.
